Police arrested Telugu Desam MLA from Devineni Umamaheswara Rao at Gollapudi near Vijayawada on Saturday
The MLA was arrested on the charges of wrongly restraining a person (Section 341 of the IPC) and assault for the attack against minister from the district, K Parthasaradhi during the Rachabanda programme at Reddipalem village in his constituency on Friday.
High drama prevailed near his residence as the police descended in large numbers in early hours. The police picked him up as soon as he stepped out of his residence at around 10 a.m. on Saturday.
TDP activists raised slogans against minister Saradhi and alleged that the minister could not face the people as his failures were exposed. Umamaheswara Rao himself said that he was not afraid of such arrests and said that he would continue agitations for the farmers till justice was done to the farmers. "Minister Saradhi was behind my arrest and I am not going be thwarted by such acts. I will not let go Saradhi till justice is done to the farmers," the TDP MLA said. Later, the local court granted bail for the TDP leader.
