On Tuesday court granted special category status to former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy and managing director of Obulapuram Mining Company B.V. Srinivas Reddy inside the jail against opposition from the Central Bureau of Investigation
The judge made this recommendation under Rule 730 of the Prison Rules and the same was sent to the district collector in accordance with the laid down procedure for approval and review by the collector. The CBI had opposed the special prisoner status petition that was moved by Gali.
In a separate development, Gali and his associate on Tuesday filed their bail pleas in the CBI court. This is their third application for bail ever since their arrest two months ago. The judge posted the matter to November 11.
Meanwhile, the defence counsels E. Uma Maheshwar Rao and V. Rami Reddy, on Tuesday, moved bail petitions on behalf of the Reddys, the third since their arrest. The judge asked the CBI to file counter to them on Friday.
The petitions were moved arguing that the circumstances had changed in the case as the investigation was completed and statements of almost all witnesses recorded. There was nothing left except filing of charge-sheet.
