Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced on Monday that India was “inclined to vote in favour” of a resolution on promoting reconciliation and accountability in Sri Lanka at the ongoing 19{+t}{+h} session of the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva. In his reply to the motion of thanks on the president's reply, the PM said, "As regards the issue of a draft resolution initiated by the US at the on-going 19th session of the UNHRC, we do not yet have the final text of the resolution.

Huge Traffic Fines - Hyderabad

Drunken driving, jumping red light, overspeeding and use of mobile phones behind the wheels among other traffic offences will henceforth attract higher fine and jail term under new rules approved by the Union Cabinet today. The increase in penalties is up to five times for the traffic violations under the proposed amendment to the Motor Vehicle Act likely to be introduced in the forthcoming Budget session of Parliament.

SC clarification on auction of 2G licences

In his application, Irene Cherian, Under Secretary (AS-V) in the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), said that on February 2, while allowing two writ petitions, the court declared illegal the two press releases issued on January 10, 2008 and quashed the allocation of spectrum licences allocated pursuant to the press releases. CPI to support Telangana candidates in Andhra bypolls

In a setback to the TDP, the CPI on Wednesday decided to support the TRS in five of the seven Assembly constituencies, where bypolls will be held on March 18.
